What does '75%+ solid content' mean?

Solid content refers to the percentage of the stain that remains on the wood after the carrier (water or solvent) evaporates. At 75%+ solids, Men-Wood finish leaves significantly more pigment and protective binder on the surface compared to typical stains at 30–50% solids. This means better coverage, deeper color, and longer-lasting protection with fewer coats.

What is a translucent pigmented stain?

A translucent stain allows the natural grain and texture of the wood to show through while adding rich, even color. Unlike solid stains that hide the wood grain, or clear sealers that add no color, our translucent formula gives you the best of both worlds — beautiful color enhancement with the natural character of the wood still visible.

Will Men-Wood finish peel or crack?

Accepted Answer

No. Because Men-Wood finish penetrates into the wood fibers rather than forming a film on top, it will not peel, crack, or blister. It weathers naturally and can be recoated without stripping or sanding in most cases.

Is Men-Wood finish safe for use around plants and pets?

Accepted Answer

Once fully cured (typically 24–48 hours), Men-Wood finish is safe for use in areas with plants and pets. During application and drying, we recommend keeping pets and children away from the treated area and ensuring good ventilation.

What surfaces can I use Men-Wood finish on?

Accepted Answer

Men-Wood finish is formulated for all exterior wood surfaces including decks, fences, siding, pergolas, gazebos, wood furniture, and log homes. It works on most wood species including cedar, pine, redwood, oak, fir, and pressure-treated lumber.

How do I apply Men-Wood finish?

Men-Wood finish can be applied by brush, roller, or sprayer. For best results, apply to clean, dry wood in temperatures between 50°F and 90°F. Stir thoroughly before use. Apply a generous first coat and allow to penetrate for 15–20 minutes before wiping off any excess. A second coat can be applied after 4 hours.

How much coverage can I expect?

Coverage depends on the wood's porosity and texture. On smooth, dense wood you can expect 150–200 sq ft per gallon. On rough or porous wood (like weathered cedar or pressure-treated lumber), expect 100–150 sq ft per gallon. When in doubt, call us — we're happy to help you calculate how much you need.

How long does it take to dry?

Men-Wood finish is touch-dry in approximately 2 hours under normal conditions (70°F, 50% humidity). You can recoat after 4 hours. The stain is fully cured in 24–48 hours. Avoid foot traffic on decks for at least 24 hours after the final coat.

Do I need to strip my old stain before applying?

If your existing stain is in good condition and is a penetrating stain (not a solid/film-forming stain), you can apply Men-Wood finish directly over it after cleaning. If the old stain is peeling, flaking, or is a solid/opaque stain, it should be stripped or sanded first. Call us if you're unsure — we'll walk you through it.

How fast will my order ship?

We do our best to ship the same day your order comes in. If that's not possible, it goes out the very next business day. All orders ship via UPS standard ground — we are not able to offer express or expedited shipping at this time.

Men-Wood finish is available in 1-gallon and 5-gallon containers. For large projects or contractor orders, please contact us directly for bulk pricing and availability.

Question 12

Can I return or exchange a product?

Accepted Answer

Because stain is a custom-tinted product, we cannot accept returns on opened containers. All returned orders are subject to a 20% restocking fee. If you receive a damaged or incorrect product, please contact us within 5 business days and we'll make it right immediately.
